Decorative Flake and Metallic Floor Finishes

Flake and metallic finishes are what most people picture when they think of a coated floor — the color, the depth, the way it reads as a finished surface rather than a painted one. None of that changes what has to happen underneath it. The concrete still needs to be ground, still needs cracks and pitting repaired, and still needs the same moisture consideration a plain coating would.

The difference is mostly application skill on the decorative layer itself — getting flake distribution even, or working a metallic pigment so it moves the way it's supposed to rather than pooling unevenly. That's a separate skill from prep, but it doesn't replace prep. A beautifully applied metallic finish over an under-prepped slab fails the same way a plain coating would, just with more visible damage when it goes.
